Nephrite Jade, or "Pounamu" in Māori, is a culturally significant and geologically unique form of Jade found primarily in the South Island of New Zealand. This nephrite, a silicate mineral rich in calcium and magnesium, forms through intense geological processes, including high-pressure metamorphism and regional folding in Serpentinized rocks, giving it exceptional toughness. New Zealand’s nephrite Jade varies in color from deep green to pale whitish tones.
