Prehnite from the Western Cape, South Africa, particularly from deposits like Beaufort West and the Karoo dolerites near Cradock, is renowned for its translucent, jelly-green to yellowish-green hue and distinctive botryoidal or cogwheel-shaped formations. First discovered in the region by Colonel Hendrik von Prehn in the 18th century, making it the first mineral named after a person.
