Madagascar Smokey Quartz and Morion Smokey Quartz

Madagascar Smokey Quartz, sourced from the Antsirabe and Fianarantsoa regions, is a captivating silicon dioxide gemstone renowned for its translucent smoky brown to deep grayish-black hues, often with exceptional clarity, while its Morion Smokey Quartz variant stands out for its nearly opaque, intense black-brown to jet-black coloration. With a Mohs hardness of 7, both varieties form in pegmatites and granite cavities, their colors resulting from natural irradiation and trace aluminum impurities.
