Red Jasper from Madagascar
Red Jasper from Madagascar is an opaque microcrystalline quartz variety coloured deep brick-red to blood-red by iron oxide inclusions, primarily hematite. Specimens often feature hematite as distinct black, dark grey, or metallic inclusions in spots, veins, or bands that contrast against the uniform red matrix, sometimes with subtle brown, orange, or yellow hints from additional iron compounds. Mined in sedimentary and volcanic deposits, this material polishes to a high lustre and is commonly shaped into decorative items like free forms, spheres, points, or carvings, highlighting the bold red base and scattered hematite patterns.
