PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
CUPRITE AND MALACHITE SPECIMEN FROM CONGO
Congolese Cuprite with Malachite, cuprite is a copper oxide mineral and one of the most important secondary copper minerals, forming in the oxidised zones of copper ore deposits through the weathering of primary copper sulphides. Its deep red to almost black colouration is caused by its high copper content, and fine crystals display a striking submetallic to adamantine lustre. Malachite, a copper carbonate hydroxide, forms alongside Cuprite in the same oxidised copper zones, producing vivid banded and botryoidal green masses that contrast sharply with the dark red Cuprite. The Mashamba West Mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo sits within the Central African Copperbelt, one of the richest copper mineralisation zones on earth, and has produced some of the finest copper mineral association specimens known to collectors
