PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Adamantine Zircon Crystals
This batch of selected Adamantine Zircon crystals from Malawi features stunning red, brown, and pink hues with a distinctive adamantine lustre, unique to Zircon. As a zirconium silicate mineral, Zircon is typically found in small quantities in various rocks, but it rarely forms large or well-defined crystals. These specimens are ideal for both experienced collectors and those new to the hobby, offering something different and captivating for any collection.
Zircon is a naturally occurring mineral composed of zirconium silicate and serves as the primary global source of zirconium metal. It is characterized by an exceptionally high refractive index (1.92–2.01) and strong dispersion, giving the gemstone a brilliance and "fire" that rivals diamonds. While naturally found in reddish-brown, yellow, and green hues, it is most commonly heat-treated to produce a vibrant electric blue. Beyond its use in jewelry as a December birthstone, zircon's high melting point (over 2,500°C) and chemical stability make it indispensable for industrial refractories, ceramic opacifiers, and foundry moulds. Notably, its ability to retain trace amounts of uranium and thorium allows geologists to use it for precise radiometric dating, as it is one of the oldest known minerals on Earth.
