PRODUCT INFORMATION

General Description

Shattuckite, a stunning copper silicate hydroxide mineral boasting a breath-taking display of vivid blues complemented by a tapestry of associated copper minerals. Nestled within this exceptional material are vibrant hues of chrysocolla, plancheite, and occasionally duftite, cuprite, chalcocite, native copper, azurite, and dioptase. Each piece, meticulously cobbed into smaller specimens, is presented either as striking specimens or as rough material ideal for cutting and crafting. Shattuckite, scientifically known as Cu5(SiO3)4(OH)2, embodies the essence of its mineral composition, crystallizing within the orthorhombic–bipyramidal crystal system. Typically found in a granular massive form, it also manifests as fibrous acicular crystals, closely resembling the structure and appearance of plancheite. The name Shattuckite pays homage to its discovery site, the Shattuck Mine located in Bisbee, Arizona, USA.

Chrysocolla has a cyan (blue-green) colour and is a minor ore of Copper. The material has a wide range of hardness between 2.5 to 7.0. It is of secondary origin and forms in the oxidation zones of copper ore bodies. It is typically found as botryoidal or rounded masses and crusts, or vein fillings. Congo produces the most frequently available materials sold at Toprock but the material is also known from Namibia from time to time. Malachite is the more frequently associated mineral to the Chrysocolla out of Congo. Natural specimens are not as commonly available as polished items, but the supply is highly variable. Associated minerals are Quartz, Limonite, Azurite, Malachite, Cuprite and other secondary copper minerals.

Price is grade dependant. Item/s are as shown.
