PRODUCT INFORMATION

General Description

Sugilite, a relatively rare mineral displaying hues from pink to purple, belongs to the cyclosilicate family, characterized by its intricate chemical formula: KNa₂(Fe, Mn, Al)₂Li₃Si₁₂O₃₀. This mineral typically forms in the hexagonal system, with its prismatic crystals being an uncommon find, often occurring in massive formations. The renowned Sugilite from the Wessels mine commands incredibly high prices, especially the gel material, which holds extraordinary value. However, recent decades have witnessed a scarcity in specimen-grade pieces, making them increasingly rare. Typically discovered in slender veins or fibrous crystals embedded in a Ferro-Manganese matrix, Sugilite occasionally exhibits Richterite (blue) inclusions, adding to its allure. While high-grade material is usually fashioned into exquisite jewellery pieces due to its exceptional quality, specimen-grade Sugilite, though not deemed suitable for cutting, remains highly sought after by collectors. Its scarcity and desirability make it an esteemed addition to any collection. Sugilite can range from R1500 to R20000 per kilogram. Zambian material is different from Wessels mine material, but is nonetheless beautiful and collectable. Not A grade but very rare material.

Price is grade dependant. Items are as shown.
