PRODUCT INFORMATION

General Description

Agate is any translucent microcrystalline form of silica. Agates tend to be translucent, while Jaspers are more opaque and do not allow light to pass through them. Agate and crystalline Agate are a fairly staple product from Madagascar. The agate is sourced country wide and mostly polished in Antananarivo. The material ranges from banded grey and white to dendritic black spotted and fortification features with crystals from clear, white or pale, to bright purple Amethyst. The majority of material tends to be cut and polished, with very little of the material being left unworked. This is very different from standard Brazilian dyed material as we only supply material with natural colour. Only the top 20% of material is selected.

Often called Blue Dalmatian Stone! This is a fairly new material from Madagascar which is almost brecciated Quartz / Granite-like matrix which ranges in colour from white to smokey. A percentage of the material with a Quartz matrix has variable gemmy zones with a wide range of blue Spinel spot-like inclusions. The more recent material is closer in appearance to the K2 Afghanite. A very interesting new product line which has up to now only been available in hearts, spheres and most recently standing free forms. Excellent polished finish. Very nice rare new material which has sometimes been called blue Dalmatian Jasper. It has been recently reported that the President of Madagascar has purchased the mine producing this material. Last time this happened, the material exited the market, as in terms of Malagasy law, only the mine owner can sign the paperwork for export. Therefore, it is likely this material will become extremely rare in the very near future.
