Natural XL Rare Rhodocalcite Specimen x 1 From Congo
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Extremely beautiful and highly collectable Rhodocalcite specimen
Rhodo-calcite, often referred to as Cobalto Calcite or Cobaltocalcite, is a calcium carbonate mineral notable for its distinctive pink color due to the inclusion of cobalt in its crystal structure.
Rhodo-calcite is part of the Calcite group, which is known for its calcium carbonate composition. The mineral's color varies from light pink to a more intense pink, influenced by the cobalt content. It forms in environments where cobalt is present, often alongside other minerals like dolomite, malachite, and heterogenite. The mineral can be found in hydrothermal veins, metasomatic deposits, and sedimentary manganese deposits, especially in locations where manganese and cobalt are part of the geological setting.
In Congo, specifically the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rhodo-calcite or Cobalto Calcite has been mined from notable locations like the Mashamba West Mine in the Sicomines copper-cobalt project in Mutshatsha, Lualaba. This area is famous for producing beautifully crystallized specimens with vibrant colorations.
