General Description
Spirit Quartz / Cactus Quartz is a quartz habit which is 100% unique to the Boekenhouthoek deposits of South Africa. Since its discovery specimens have always been a highly sort after community out of the South African soils! Younger deposits had exceptional dark intense colour with more recent deposits being lighter in colour and some section producing mixed amethyst and citrine like colouration, hence aptly named ametrine spirit quartz. Unfortunately, amethyst spirit quartz only represents 1% of the deposits mined. The bulk of Spirit Quartz is in fact "white" with some subtle variations in colour. Present day excavations produce Amethyst material which ranges from very pale lilac to a darker tone of purple, else plate-like specimens with richer more classic old school colour intensity but without the traditional habit. Material which lacks the unique spirit / cactus habit has been dubbed sunburst amethyst due to the complex distribution of colour. However, the lack of the unique habit is made up by the occurrence of phantom like colour distribution in the “sun burst” material. Toprock exclusively select material which is on average 90% intact - else with minor damages. All material is cleaned to perfection.
