General Description
Picture stone jasper has been around for many moons, and is a beautiful material which shows complex patterns of preserved desert sand dune. The sand dunes have since lithified over millions of years, under temperature and pressure. The material obviously shows a complex range of sandy desert colours, and highly variable and complex patterns. The material has become less frequently used in the most recent times, and is something one might consider an "Old School" rock type! Thousands and thousands of tons of this material has been exported to China and Asia over the last several decades, which has practically come to a grinding halt, as they now produce a synthetic. It is often near impossible to tell the difference between the original and synthetic, without a trained eye, but source of the material is generally a good indicator. Therefore, finding 100% real Picture Stone Jasper is now fairly impossible on the mass market, and pricing for real material often seems excessive in comparison with the Asian junk!
