Polished Cleoniceras Ammonite – Tulear, Madagascar
Polished Cleoniceras sp. ammonite fossil from the Lower Cretaceous (Albian) Mahajanga Basin near Tulear, Atsimo-Andrefana Region, Madagascar, displays a spiral heteromorph shell sectioned along the median plane to reveal internal septa and suture patterns characteristic of the family Deshayesitidae; the specimen can exhibit iridescent nacreous layers of aragonite preserved as ammolite with red, green, and gold interference colors, supported by a Calcite replaced phragmocone and matrix of marly limestone, representing a fully mature individual from shallow marine depositional environments.
