Belemnite Rostrum Fossil
The Belemnite Rostrum Fossil from Mahajanga, Madagascar, is a remnant of an extinct marine Cephalopod, known for its bullet-shaped, Calcite structure that formed part of its internal skeleton. Originating from the Jurassic to Cretaceous periods 66 - 200 million years ago, these fossils showcase a smooth or faintly striated surface, with concentric growth rings revealing a lifespan of about four years. Formed from low-Mg Calcite, the rostrum served as a counterbalance for the squid like creature’s buoyant phragmocone, aiding its agility in ancient oceans. Each fossil’s unique texture and earthy tones make it a great piece for collectors and a valuable tool for geologists or university's studying ancient marine environments.
