Iolite, the "Viking’s Compass," was used by Norse sailors for navigation due to its pleochroic blue hue, shifting colors by angle. This rare Malagasy Iolite, polished by expert lapidaries, features striking pink feldspar spots, making it a unique collector’s gem. Formed in metamorphic rocks from minerals like mica and feldspar, its deep blue, nearly black in low light, contrasts vividly with the pink inclusions. Only one consignment of this exclusive material was ever received. If Vikings had this rose-tinted Iolite, navigation might have been even more enchanting!
