PRODUCT INFORMATION

General Description

Goethite is an iron oxyhydroxide containing ferric iron. It is the main component of rust and bog iron ore. Goethite's hardness ranges from 5.0 to 5.5 on the Mohs Scale, and its specific gravity varies from 3.3 to 4.3. The mineral forms prismatic needle-like crystals ("needle iron ore") but is more typically massive. The mineral was named after the German polymath and poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832). This material is being sourced in Zimbabwe, and then cut and worked if needed in South Africa. Goethite is a fairly common inclusion in Quartz, but with such rich orange tangerine colour makes them all quite exceptional. This is a new line made in South Africa with the natural specimens being cut on the matrix to reduce weight and to enable the pieces to display exceptionally well. A very nice new line of products from Southern Africa. Price is grade dependant. Item/s are as shown.
