Generally Speaking - Madagascar is mined fairly extensively for a wide range of quartz both in the north and south of the country. The best deposits yield optic to near optic white to smokey crystals which are mostly small crystals in complex and dense arrangements. Clusters either having a plate or complex vug like habit. The material is exceptionally well mined, and mostly intact but damage can be expected depending of the grade of the specimens. Irrespective of some damage the material is mostly all cleaned and been through a round of acid. On rare occasions some haematoid colouration remains evident on some specimens. We recently obtained 7 tons of material from Madagascar! Several mines production for a long time, covid has done some serious damage to the miners in Madagascar simply due to the break down of distributional channels and the total ban of foreign visitors for several years! We adopted a "total deposit" concept when we purchased from our friends. The only way to ensure sustainable mining to facilitate economic empowerment to a wide range of local families.
