PRODUCT INFORMATION
General Description
Sold per polished and cut pair. All selected Medium sized specimens in sealed bag. All opposing pairs. Ammonite/s which have variable features including crystalline, sediment or calcified segments. All very beautiful. Grading cut ammonites is always a very difficult task. The fact that these wonderful fossils have been so well preserved for millions of years is just exceptional in itself. However, when segments are less distinctive, or have calcite infills without crystalline vugs the grade tends to be negatively impacted. Higher graded material will have clearly distinctive segments, crystalline areas, and often a mix of calcite infills or sedimentary infills. Grading of pieces is often quite subjective as features which are "Lower quality" are often the appealing qualities for other buyers. Ammonites from Madagascar tend to be Triassic to Cretaceous in age, with several different species being available sporadically.
The photographs are representative of either the entire stock item offered, else a representative sample of the broader batch. Variation is to be expected across individually selected batches. However, all batches / items within this stock item are fully sorted and selected accordingly to associated grade.
