PRODUCT INFORMATION

General Description

Exceptionally rare material from a place called Tshipise, meaning hot place due to thermal hot spring! Lovely Bastite (Epidote and Piedmontite) from South Africa. Absolutely stunning colour mix of green, red and earthy colours. The nature of the material has led to it often being referred to as Dragons Blood Stone! Not a commonly available rock type, and even less commonly polished! Piedmontite is a sorosilicate mineral in the monoclinic crystal system with the chemical formula Ca 2 3O(OH). It is a member of the epidote group. Red to reddish-brown or red-black in colour, Piedmontite has a red streak and a vitreous lustre. Epidote is an abundant rock-forming mineral, but one of secondary origin. It occurs in marble and schistose rocks of metamorphic origin. It is also a product of hydrothermal alteration of various minerals (feldspars, micas, pyroxenes, amphiboles, garnets, and others) composing igneous rocks. Price is grade dependent. Items are as shown.
