General Description
This Is A New Find As The Old Mine Ran Out of Specimens In 2009, Only Found In One Location Near Ambositra Madagascar! Hollandite from Madagascar were considered extinct some 15 years ago until recently a new pocket was opened in the Ambositra region. Since its re-discovery, an exceedingly small amount of material has come onto the market. In 2019 Toprock secured the deposit and now obtains all mined material. Direct from the mine to our customers. Exceptionally rare and highly collectible. It is unclear when the current pocket will be exhausted. Supply is extremely limited.Background Information: Hollandite is an oxide mineral. It is the barium-manganese (III) end member of the coronadite group. A mineral, with the chemical composition BaMn4+6Fe3+2O16,[2] that was first found in the Kajlidongri mine in the Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh, India, had the name hollandite until it was reclassified as ferri-hollandite by the International Mineralogical Association in 2012. Named in honour of Sir Thomas Henry Holland (22 November 1868, Helston, Cornwall, England – 15 May 1947, Surbiton, London), geologist and educational administrator. He was Director of the Geological Survey of India. He also held administrative positions at the Imperial College London and the University of Edinburgh.
