PRODUCT INFORMATION

General Description

Exceptional range of polished purpurite which remains nature in its colour. One of the earliest batches we did we soaked in resin and left a high shine finish on the material, but the feedback was indifferent in terms of it being unnatural! None the less, this is 100% natural colour and shimmer. A minor acid soak brings out the sparkle but this is subject to atmospheric condition! Generally Speaking - Purpurite is a Manganese Iron Phosphate mineral with varying amounts of Iron depending on its source. It occurs in colour ranges from brownish black via purple and violet to dark red. Purpurite forms a series with the Iron-bearing endmember Heterosite, FePO4. We obtain Purpurite from Namibia. Purpurite doesn't form crystals but rather occurs as a beautiful metallic chatoyancy in veins and along fracture plains of the host rock. Excellent rare specimens for collectors. Purpurite is a Manganese Iron Phosphate mineral. Price is grade dependent. Items are as shown.
