Mineral Type - Tourmaline - Foitite
Foitite is named after Franklin F.Foit, Jr., Washington State University, Pullman, in recognition of his on tourmaline-group minerals. Foitite is a vacancy-dominant member of the Tourmaline Group. Occurs in the Erongo region of Namibia and is a very rare form of tourmaline. Very distinctive habit from schorl and chemically different. Only a small number of pockets have even been recovered in the region. A very nice rare classic tourmaline - Froijite is the alternative spelling but the formal taxonomic spelling is Foitite after the discovering scientist.
