PRODUCT INFORMATION

General Description

Batches include an average of 60 to 120 pieces per 500g. This is a lovely mix of mine run material which includes Amethyst and Smokey Amethyst crystals which are mostly either double terminated, sceptre, multi-terminated and/or window specimens. Mostly singles or small clusters. Not all A grade but still very beautiful crystals.

Generally Speaking - Cheredzi is known for darker Amethyst Smokey Quartz crystals which are very Brandberg-like. Lepidocrocite specular or needle-like inclusions are invariably common. Skeletal or window features else sceptre shapes are common. The first few batches of material had a relatively high percentage of damage. Subsequently our regional efforts have assisted in training the miners to work the deposits with greater care thus reducing the frequency of damage. The average size of material has also increased since the first batches. On average the crystals are still small but specimens between 40 to 80mm in size are becoming more frequent. Material is often stained or coated with complex patinas which require a fair degree of specialised cleaning. The first Chiredzi material appeared in Late 2018 and early 2019, with extraordinarily little material becoming available until most recently. Toprock has invested a huge amount of manpower into the region seeking the source and origins of the material. As a result, we are now purchasing directly from a wide range of regional deposits which extend from Chiredzi to Shangani. Cheredzi was first named for deposits in Zimbabwe. Later more gemmy material was reported from Zambia and deposits now reported in Mozambique.

The photographs are representative of either the entire stock item offered, else a representative sample of the broader batch. Variation is to be expected across individually selected batches.
