Our Wonderful Staff

Our Wonderful Staff

Most of you would have seen our email re updates on Toprock staff members, for those of you who havent, here is a rundown on our team Nick - Rocks for breakfast, ,lunch, supper, dessert daily.. Madagascar and Africa supplies and trips, sorting, pricing, emails..occasionally answers his phone in between nick@toprocks.com Nicole - Admin, emails, freight, orders, accounts, Kat will be freeing up some of Nicoles time so she has more time to correspond with you lovely folk and do more Nature Conservation projects in some potential spare time in the evenings now! nicole@toprocks.com. Nicole has been answering as many as 300 emails daily in-between ( up until Kat helping here) , so will now be able to slack off and have time for two cups of coffee per day! Mandy - Uploads onto the website daily and keeps everything on the website running smoothly. We still have no idea how she reads Nicks handwriting but she specialises in reading reverse Russian and drunken spider scrawl apparently! mandy@toprocks.com Abel - Warehouse Manager for many years, Rock Sheets, sorting, packing.. also known as Superman.. you have never seen anybody who can work this hard! Abe just bought a new car and now won’t work on Sundays anymore, so we may have to let his tyres down! Paul - 500-1000 Photo’s daily, sorting stock items, goat herder, snake catcher..doubles as the Tea lady sometimes as well. A terrible sense of humour, but a good eye for the rock. Paul gets abused daily and even likes it! Kat - Admin, Freight, enquiries…of dozens of other activities that arise daily. Super friendly, extra ordinarily happy and extremely efficient kat@toprocks.com Vusi - Who is here permanently now to help us with packing and unpacking, stock room and anything that comes up. Abel’s easy going Cousin. Haven’t ever seen him without a smile yet (just the occasional groan when we give him 12 orders to pack at once!) Thobeka - Has the task of bossing us around and keeping it tidy here..and boy she is good.. don’t cross Thobeka! Nice new hair Thobi! Ali - The smallest staff member with the biggest heart, much like an ant, Ali is capable of cheerfully carrying three times his own body weight when containers of new stock arrive! He is a happy little powerhouse and we don’t know how we would manage without him. We also have Voahangy, Eddie, Vuluna, Jose, Raholy, Andy and Claude in Madagascar who are family and have mostly been permanently with us now for 24 years. We are extremely lucky to have such excellent staff and fantastic customers and we also have an awesome wide array of many hundreds of miners and rock folks all over Africa and Madagascar.

(Kat has recently left the company - We love you kat!) January 2018

Lwena Citrine

Lwena Citrine

These Gorgeous Crystals come from Lwena near the Zambian border in Democratic Rep. of Congo. They have the most beautiful and delicate cascading layers of crystals growing around the bases and down the sides of the main crystals. Colour is from clear, to yellow, to Smokey yellow. They are usually fairly hard to get hold of and tend to be quite expensive. The mining region is very remote and often flooded during summer rain season. We get these in every so often and they sell faster than we can sneeze!

Chrysocolla

Chrysocolla

CHRYSACOLLA. A very beautiful Blue Copper Oxide/Silica mineral that is usually mixed with Malachite and sometimes Azurite/occasionally Plancheite, Dioptase. We get several different types coming through Toprock from different locations at different times. We generally get Congo botryoidal crystalline specimens in from 3 or 4 different Copper Mines every 3-8 weeks and also cutting material from Namibia from 2 different locations sporadically from Small Mining operations. The Namibian material is silica based and makes fantastic cutting material. (Nick; info@toprocks.net)

Gallet Freeforms

Gallet Freeforms

Gallets (galet./pronounced Gallay means pebble) are NOT tumblestones...not even close. A Gemstone gallet is an individually selected piece of A grade raw material of any kind (usually the best material available) that has been individually shaped by hand and machine, rounded and polished perfectly. Rather than being just a piece of some or other coloured stone, they are patiently and carefully made laboriously one by one, not by the ton. It is an individual item than can be treasured and stand by itself as a unique item. They are made as all sizes of freeform but they are usually polished into a flattish rounded larger or smaller palm sized piece to fit into your hand. We know from experience with our own retail shops over the years that we sell 10 times more Gemstone Gallet's than we do large tumblestones. Most of our customers do. as well. Tumblestones tend to have have cracks and flaws (especially the larger stones) and are average material, whereas people want something to hold or play with of quality. We have made Gallets from many materials, Labradorite, Carnelian, Rose Quartz, Fluorite, Smokey Quartz, Blue Smithsonite, Chrysacolla, Fluorite Rock Crystal, Ocean Jasper, Citrine, Tiger Eye, Amethyst, Septerye, Blue Calcite, Matrix Dioptase, Matrix Ajoite, Pharoah stone, Stichtite, Sugilite, Pietersite, Malachite, Shattuckite, Petrified Wood, Girasol, Sodalite, Ploychrome Jasper, Blue Agate, Stromatolite, We are looking at making Mtorolite (Emerald Chrysophrase) at the moment. They are beautiful and will continue to try and Gallet any beautiful new material that may arise!!.

Electric Blue Kyanite

Electric Blue Kyanite

There has been a drought on this stunning Electric Blue Kyanite for quite a while now. Finally, the drought has broken and our friend Valentino has re-opened the mine and is mining for specimen crystals. This material beats the Brazilian and other Kyanite locations that we have seen crystals from Hands down. Each crystal is translucent and most of them are perfect sizes for making pendants, many are larger individual specimens and this has been claimed as the best healing stone there is, so its almost impossible to not make some very good profit on these when you re-sell them. There should always be some stock available on the website to order from, but if nit, you are welcome to ask me about getting hold of some at any time...be it 1kg or 200kg...we are stocking this excellent material and re-ordering from the mine regularly and very successfully keeping this new mining operation open. Please enquire if you are interested; info@toprocks.net (Nick)
