PRODUCT INFORMATION

General Description

African turquoise is a chrysocolla which is mined and available within South Africa. The material has a rich complex blue colour with various shades of intrusive material which tends to be brown to black in colour. The material is a mass deposit (i.e. lacking crystalline material) and is very attractive, and exceptionally rare. Only tiny pockets of this material is mined on a sporadic basis. There is only a single Malagasy owned and run Lapidary workshop in South Africa which produces high quality polished items to Malagasy standards. Therefore, material polished locally is exclusively done in this workshop. The vast majority of material produced comes our way. Toprock has supported this business for many decades. Due to the high input costs in South Africa including Electric and Labour input costs, polished material often appears expensive in comparison to Asian material!
